Slowly Learning
This week I worked on how I could use Quizlet to sharpen multiplication fact skills. I had to get creative because I couldn't find a multiplication sign to use. I figured that I would use the 'x' letter key and it seemed to work. The only function on Quizlet that didn't recognize it was the speaking function. Typically, when the speaker is clicked, it will read the definition. With the multiplication problem, instead of saying, "three times two" it just states, "three, two". Other than that, it was very easy to set up the math facts and add them to my class sets. I also figured out that I can take any of my class sets and generate quizzes that can either be done online or printed to use in the classroom. I am going to take advantage of this and give a science vocabulary quiz this week!

Hi Melissa!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your creativeness to find ways around potential "road blocks" with Quizlet. The use of "X" was a great way to still provide the numerical problem. It's strange that the speaking function didn't even recognize and say the letter "x" instead of skipping over it. If you are planning to do this same strategy for other operations, you could always write out the words in quotes or parenthesis for your students to read as well as the speaking function. Examples could look like 2 (times) 3 or 2 "times" 3. The only problem that may arise might be that the words could cause some confusion if your students are used to the symbols. The quiz generator sounds like a perfect tool, especially since it utilizes the same content that your students are familiar with and had been working on when using the site. I'm sure that if they used the site before in order to study their science vocabulary, they will all do very well! I thought you did a great job incorporating math into this site, and I am looking forward to seeing how you incorporate any other math-based problems in the future!

Hi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI like quizzes generator. I always get stuck in writing quizzes. I think that this tool is great!
I think quiz let is a great tool to use for kids to grasp certain subject. I wish there was quizlet around when I was a little kid would have made life easier to learn.
